Ashin Kovida: Three Rohingya men raped and killed a Rakhine [Buddhist] woman. Rohingya Muslims became upset and began attacking Rakhine Buddhists after the men were arrested. The [Arakanese Buddhists] Rakhine were only defending themselves. They couldn’t do anything else.

Paul Copeland: All the reports I see say it started from Rohingya men raping a [Buddhist] Rakhine woman, and I think the men were killed by the Rakhine.

Nur Hasim: A Rakhine women was raped and killed, but it is unknown who did it. Two Rakhine men and one Rohingya man were arrested, and the Rohingya was killed in custody by police. The Rakhine accused Rohingya men of the crime and the next day a leaflet was released encouraging the Rakhine to kill Rohingyas in retaliation. In June, a bus carrying Muslims from Rangoon to Arakan state was attacked by 300 Rakhine youth. They were inhumanely beaten and eight were killed on the spot.

There are reports that photos of Rakhine Buddhists killing Rohingya Muslims are fake or being misrepresented. Who’s doctoring or misrepresenting these photos?

Ashin Kovida: India has asked the Pakistani government to stop extremist groups in Pakistan from making fake photos and the Pakistani media to stop showing them. We know they are fake because we’ve seen the original photos and know that they’ve been photoshopped. The photos are coming from Pakistan and the Middle East.

Paul Copeland: The photos are bullshit. They are of Buddhist monks praying over hundreds of earthquake victims in Tibet, but the photos are being portrayed as Buddhist monks standing over the bodies of dead Muslims in Arakan state. There are reports that these photos are coming from groups in Pakistan, but it’s hard to tell. Unfortunately, many Muslim countries have picked up on this rather than addressing what’s really going on, which is the long mistreatment of the Rohingya in Myanmar.

Nur Hasim: There are fake photos, but they are being posted on the Internet by the [Myanmar] government and the Rakhine people. Then they are saying that other Muslims are posting these photos. They are confusing the international community. I didn’t hear anything about Pakistani terrorist groups posting the photos. And the government is trying to propagate that the real photos of Rohingya Muslims being killed are fake, too.

Ashin Kovida: I don’t know. Maybe Muslims want to make unrest in Myanmar and claim Burmese land as their land. They want to bring shariah maybe. But they should go back to their country if they want that. Myanmar is changing fast, becoming a democracy, and maybe some people don’t want to see this happen.

Paul Copeland: Some groups always want to exaggerate these kinds of situations for their own benefit. There are misleading accounts of how many people have been killed and the extent of the violence. The Rohingya form the majority population in Arakan state and there are suggestions that they want an independent Arakan state to be made into an Islamic state. But I doubt that this is a mainstream opinion among Buddhists and Muslims in Myanmar.

Nur Hasim: The Rohingya are asking for Burmese citizenship. Why would we ask for citizenship if we want independence? We don’t control anything so how can we create an Islamic state?

Are the Rohingya mistreated in Myanmar?

Ashin Kovida: I can’t say. They are illegal immigrants. The problem of the Rohingya is from the 1950s. And during military rule corrupt immigration officials took bribes to let the Rohingya into the country.

Paul Copeland: The Rohingya have been mistreated in Myanmar for a very long time. The Rohingya, who have been in Myanmar for close to 200 years, don’t have citizenship and I understand they’re not allowed to go to professional schools after high school. They’re also restricted to having only two children.

Nur Hasim: There are 1.5 million Rohingya in Arakan state and we have been there for close to nine centuries. We can’t marry without permission or have children. We can’t travel around the country. There is no freedom of movement or democratic rights for the Rohingya.

Burmese democracy activist Aung San Suu Kyi has received criticism for not speaking out forcefully against the atrocities committed in Arakan state. Why has she been largely silent on this issue?

Ashin Kovida: This is a very sensitive issue for her. I think she should keep silent.

Paul Copeland: Her initial statements about the need for the rule of law and a clear immigration law were fine, but she didn’t focus on the historical mistreatment of the Rohingya. It’s clear that she’s angling to get support for the 2015 election and any mention of the Rohingya, who are unpopular in Myanmar, could hurt those chances.

Nur Hasim: It’s a very sad situation. The Rohingya support the National League for Democracy [Suu Kyi’s party] and voted for her and the party in 1990. Rohingya all over the world protested against her house arrest. We very much supported her and now when the Rohingya need her help, she doesn’t support us. If Suu Kyi supports the Rohingya, she would get less votes in the 2015 election, but she has a responsibility to speak out for us.

What’s the solution to this conflict between the Rohingya Muslims and Rakhine Buddhists?

Ashin Kovida: I don’t know what the solution is. We’ve never had a problem like this before. Buddhists, Muslims and Christians have lived peacefully in Myanmar for a long time.

Paul Copeland: The Rohingya should be given citizenship and there has to be some sort of mediation to diffuse the conflict between the two communities.

Nur Hasim: The problem is the 1982 Citizenship Act, which does not recognize the Rohingya as an official minority group in Myanmar. The act needs to be repealed, and we need to be recognized so that we can be protected by the government.

US Nazi party registers first lobbyist in Washington

American Nazi Party’s newly registered John Bowles says he hopes to speak with lawmakers on such issues as ballot access, unemployment and immigration • “I’m not going to go in and shove a swastika in their face,” Bowles says. “I use a very careful and objective approach.”

The ANP’s John Bowles, 55, said registering a lobbyist was something the 53-year-old party wanted to “try out for the first time and see if it flies.”

 “I always tell my fellow Americans that they need to practice their constitutional rights or their rights will one day be eroded,” Bowles was quoted as saying by ABC News. “Lobbying is one way to do that, to try to get your point across to the elected officials in Congress.”

Bowles said he hoped to speak with lawmakers about ballot access, unemployment, immigration and budgets, according to the report.

 “I’m not going to go in and shove a swastika in their face,” ABC News quoted him as saying. “I use a very careful and objective approach. There might be some congressmen who crumple up the paper and some who say, ‘This is interesting.’”

The newly registered lobbyist promised he would not use offensive language and was open to working with all Congress members.

 “If they don’t hold my politics against me,” he was quoted as saying, “I won’t hold anything against them.”

The ANP was established in 1959 by veteran U.S. Navy Commander George Lincoln Rockwell. Its headquarters is located in Arlington, Va.

On its website, the ANP says that it is involved in “a very serious struggle … for the very existence of our White Nation of people.”

Bowles was previously involved in politics when he ran for president in 2008 as the National Socialist Movement’s nominee. He said he decided to change parties because Americans understand Nazism better than socialism.

 “So [we] decided: Why don’t we just say what we are?” Bowles was quoted as saying by The Hill.

 “In the future, when we get people on the ballot, when people see the swastika on the ballot, they’ll know what they’re getting.”

Why Ron Paul matters more than Newt Gingrich

Former House speaker Newt Gingrich’s long, slow fade into political oblivion in this presidential primary race has received lots — and lots — of attention.
“People walk up again and again and say, ‘Please stay in, and please fight for conservatism’,” Gingrich told the Post’s Karen Tumulty over the weekend. (Gingrich has never been one to hide his light under a bushel.)

Rumors fly constantly — some cropped up late last week — that conservatives are attempting to broker a deal whereby Gingrich gets out of the race (he’s not going to) and throws his support behind former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum. Conservatives are united and reenergized, the logic goes, and Gingrich, who has won a total of one state outside of his home state of Georgia, saves the conservative cause.

There’s only one problem with all of that: There’s virtually no evidence that Gingrich retains any significant constituency within the GOP or will play an influential role in the presidential race as it moves to its general election phase.

In fact, there is a case to be made that Gingrich matters far less in the contest than Texas Rep. Ron Paul.

To wit:

* In the last two major primaries — Illinois and Wisconsin — Paul has finished third, Gingrich fourth.

* As of the end of February, Paul had raised $35 million for his 2012 campaign. Gingrich had raised $20 million.

* Paul’s ideas on domestic policy — distrust of the Federal Reserve, dire warnings about the massive debt being run up by the government — have clearly influenced the rhetoric (and thinking) of the GOP. Gingrich’s most notable contribution — idea-wise — to the race thus far is his call for $2.50 gas. While that might be a smart strategy, it’s more a goal than an idea.

Based on those three points alone, the Paul-ites could argue their man has been a bigger force in the direction of the race that Gingrich. Allies of the former speaker could push back — rightly — that their candidate actually won two states (South Carolina and his home state of Georgia) and, unlike Paul, had a path to victory. True enough.

But, when it comes to the future of the contest, it’s hard to dispute that Paul matters more than Gingrich. As we have written before, Paul has a group of supporters whose ardor for his message is far greater than any other candidate can boast. Not only that, but Paul’s backers are loyal first and foremost to Paul — not to the Republican party. And that’s what makes Paul potentially influential as the race moves forward.

A Paul third-party candidacy would, barring some sort of unforeseen dynamic, likely hand President Obama a second term. Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney and his campaign team understand the power that Paul could wield and have gone out of their way to befriend him — and avoid alienating his supporters.

At some point between now an August, Paul and his people will want something — a speaking slot at the national convention? Consideration of Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul as a running mate? — from Romney World.

They may not get it. But Paul is in a much stronger bargaining position than Gingrich to extract promises from Romney because he can do far more damage if he isn’t placated. That’s why — though both men have zero chance of being their party’s standard-bearer — Paul matters more than Gingrich.

Gingrich $4.5 million in debt: Gingrich acknowledged in an interview Sunday that his campaign is on a shoestring budget. In fact, a shoestring might actually be a step up from where he’s at.

During an appearance on “Fox News Sunday,” the former House speaker said his campaign is nearly $4.5 million in debt — a staggering amount for a presidential candidate to overcome.

Gingrich, indeed, seemed to acknowledge that his campaign is all but finished, reflecting on the financial deficit under which it had to operate.

He said running for president “turned out to be much harder than I thought it would be.”

“I do think there’s a desire for a more idea-oriented Republican Party, but that doesn’t translate necessarily to being able to take on the Romney machine,” Gingrich said, according to AP.

Gunter Grass’ delusions
In his subconscious, the author needs Israel to wipe out the Iranian people, because the day Israel exterminates 80 million people will be the day that Grass – in his own delusional mind – will finally be acquitted in the court of history.

This is the second time in the last six years that writer Gunter Grass has broken his silence. Last time, he broke a 60-year silence: It took him that long to publicly admit he had served in the Waffen SS. After Grass’ confession, he also started to point out the suffering that the German people endured during World War II, in order to give credence to the claim that Germans were not only the perpetrators – but also the victims – of the war. To nurture a sense of German victimhood, Grass blamed Stalin for murdering 6 million German prisoners of war (POWs).
The journalist who quoted Grass at the time did not examine the credibility of this mystical number, and published Grass’ claim verbatim. The truth is that the total number of Germans who were held captive by the Russians is just more than 3 million – 3,127,380, to be exact. Of these 3 million, slightly less than half a million Germans, or 474,967 to be exact, died in Russian captivity. Where did Grass get the 6 million figure? He could only have pulled it from his subconscious, from the same place where he keeps his most secret wishes.
Grass needed the Russians to have exterminated 6 million German POWs to clear his conscience for the murder of 6 million Jews. And thus, with a few words, he turned half a million German soldiers who died in Russian captivity – into 6 million. Twice the total number of Germans who were in captivity, whether they were killed or not!
Grass needed for every German captive to have been killed twice to clear his conscience of the murder of 6 million Jews. When your soul yearns for exoneration, the imagination can invent a delusional reality.
Years passed, and the total nonsense Grass went on about at the time, regarding the 6 million murdered German prisoners, was exposed as a complete misrepresentation of facts. But a man’s need to liberate himself from the weight of complicity in mass murder apparently grows stronger with age, as he nears his own end. In all likelihood, that is how the bizarre text Grass published under the heading “What must be said” came about. This title indicates a powerful internal struggle, a psychological need that emanates from deep within the subconscious.
And now, once again, Grass is inventing a delusional reality, but this time he is projecting into the future. Israel could launch a preemptive strike and wipe out the Iranian people, he writes, and therefore Israel should be viewed as a threat to fragile world peace.
Just as Grass imagined a past that never was out of a need to exonerate himself, the same need is compelling him to imagine a future that will never be. Israel has never threatened Iran’s existence, whereas Iran’s leaders are constantly vowing to wipe Israel off the map.
But Grass’ subconscious needs Israel to wipe out the Iranian people, because the day that Israel exterminates 80 million people will be the day that Grass will finally be acquitted in the court of history: Hitler and the Third Reich, whose uniform Grass donned, only killed 50 million people – and Israel is about to exterminate 80 million people.
What a monstrous secret wish has emerged from the depths of this great writer’s psyche! What hellfire burns there, deep inside the soul of the former SS man. Demons erupt from the depths of the soul “with what ink remains,” as he writes.
The problem is not Gunter Grass. The problem is the 50 percent of the Süddeutsche Zeitung readership that agrees with him, according to an Internet poll taken by the German newspaper. Does the entire Christian world have a psychological need for Israel to commit a worse crime than the ones committed by the Nazis?
Is this the secret wish of all those who question Israel’s right to exist? Do they hope that Israel will, once and for all, justify the general yearning to destroy it by giving the world the gift of a massive crime against humanity? Is their disease so malignant and incurable?

FRIENDLY GHOST BABY BORN WITHOUT BLOOD

Little Olivia Norton has been hailed a miracle by doctors – after being born with no blood.

Oliva, now six months, was born completely white because she had such a low count of haemoglobin – the chemical which carries oxygen in red blood cells – that it could not officially be classed as ‘blood’.

She was given less than two hours to live but survived thanks to emergency transfusions which transformed her into a glowing healthy pink colour.

Mother Louise Bearman, 31, a barrister’s clerk, told of her shock at giving birth to a “ghost white” baby whose condition was so rare she will now feature in medical text books.

She said: “Olivia was my first baby, so I didn’t really know what to expect – but I certainly didn’t think she’d be that colour.

“I’ll never forget what the doctors notes said – ‘white and floppy’.

“There were some complications before the birth, which was incredibly scary.

“Then when Olivia came out so white we didn’t know what was going on.

“It was such a relief when the doctors explained what was happening, and it was quite amazing when they put the blood in her and she slowly turned this amazing pink colour.

“She’s such a lovely baby, it means everything having her at home now.”

Louise and her greengrocer partner Paul Norton, 36, of Witham, Essex, first noticed something was wrong when they didn’t feel Olivia kicking for three days.

They went to Broomfield Hospital, in Chelmsford, and when nurses failed to spot any movement after a 15 minute scan doctors ordered an emergency caesarean.

Olivia was born six weeks early at 8.20pm on Saturday September 10, weighing 5lbs 3oz with her heartbeat dipping dangerously low.

Haemoglobin is the protein which gives blood its characteristic red colour and ability to carry oxygen around the body.

When Olivia was born she had haemoglobin levels of just three out of a normal level of 18, which meant the plasma in her blood could not be classified as proper blood.

The newborn was rushed to the hospital’s special care baby unit where she was monitored for two weeks and had her strength and colour restored with two blood transfusions.

Neonatal nurse Sharon Pilgrim, yesterday (Mon) said in 20 years in the job she had never heard of such low haemoglobin levels.

She said: “It was a miracle she survived. She was incredibly pale when born and had difficulties breathing.

“There was no sign of blood loss prior to the caesarean or during the operation.

“It was only when we carried out further tests on Louise that we discovered the baby had lost blood directly into her mum’s blood circulation.”

Louise added: “The hospital staff were amazing and called Olivia the ‘miracle baby’ and said if I hadn’t come in she would not have survived.

“Doctors still don’t know why it happened, it is one of those freak things.

“I want mums to realise how important a baby’s movement is in checking they are healthy. You have to trust your maternal instinct.”
